Some key information

  • You will be working from the NHS Health Check delivery location with some very occasional working from home or other council base. This role is to cover the Taunton area.
  • Practically you will need to be able to travel in a timely manner to a range of delivery sites including transporting some equipment.
  • This role will specifically suit part-time staff, as it’s a role to cover 3 days a week. We can be very flexible on working hours and pattern and can consider options within school day / termtime only / evenings and or weekends / ad hoc zero hours bank and for part time posts from 7.4 hours per week or monthly equivalent.
  • Pro rata 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), raising to 28 days after 5 years continuous service.
  • This is a permanent post.

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset through earlier detection of cardiovascular disease and promotion of healthier lifestyles in Somerset and you’ll be a key part of that. NHS Health checks are part of the broader healthier lifestyle service for public health in Somerset. Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • You will be delivering NHS Health Checks across a range of community locations like workplaces, libraries or other public settings.
  • Taking and assessing the results from physical measurements, lifestyle questionnaires, point of care blood tests, and a cardiovascular risk assessment.
  • Motivating individuals to make and maintain positive health lifestyles.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance on how to deliver NHS Health Checks to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

  • Have a basic understanding of the impact of lifestyle factors on health and wellbeing.
  • Are aware of public health functions and the role of public health within local authorities.
  • Are happy to travel to sites and work independently with attention to detail and accurate recording.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills – influencing, negotiating and communication (written and verbal) skills, and able to be sensitive and empathetic.
