The National Childbirth Trust (NCT)
Health and wellbeing, Information, advice and guidanceDescription
We are a registered charity, offering support in pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood.
We aim to help all parents enjoy an experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood which enriches their lives and gives them confidence in being a parent.
Our antenatal classes provide all attendees with the knowledge and confidence they need to start their journey as parents.
We also offer a wide range of postnatal courses and workshops, where we aim to help support you through these joyful new, but sometimes challenging, times as a new parent. We have a wealth of essential, evidence-based information, designed especially for you and your baby.
Our national helpline offers convenient access to specialist information and support on pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding from our highly-trained and University-accredited, specialist breastfeeding counsellors and antenatal teachers. It also offers postnatal support with issues such as crying, sleep and depression in the weeks after birth. For more information about the phoneline and what is on offer, visit the NCT contact us page.
At a local level we have a large network of NCT branches, run by volunteers, offering a wide variety of events and activities for all new parents, such as
- our New Nearly Sales – which sell a range of high-quality baby and children’s clothes, toys and equipment at bargain prices
- our Bumps and Babies groups – which cater for newborn babies up to toddlers
These small, friendly, local groups give new parents and parents-to-be the chance to meet regularly, make new friends and grow in confidence.
There are other ad-hoc events organised by the branches, including First Aid Evenings, Cheeky Monkey Tea Parties and days out.
Type of provision
