Applications to modify the Definitive Map and Statement
The Definitive Map and Statement are the legal record of public rights of way. Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 allows for applications to be made to amend that record where it is perceived to be in error. There is more information about the Map and Statement, and applications to modify them on our rights of way pages.
A register containing details of each application received by the Council is available by using Explore Somerset. The applications are listed by their unique reference number on the tabular modifications register.
Each entry on the register has a ‘view on map’ link which can be used to find more information about the individual applications, including the precise location of the application routes.
The Explore Somerset map can also be accessed directly through the ‘to map’ link in the top right-hand corner of the page. It is then possible to turn the modifications layer on (by clicking on Map Options and then Open or Closed Modifications) and to look for applications in any given area of Somerset.
Copies of the completed application forms can be viewed on Rights of way requests list. They are listed in the order we received them, or you can search the list.
