Disabled parking bays

Our rules about how we can help with parking close to your home if you are a disabled driver

Introduction

We changed the way we deal with advisory disabled parking bay requests in December 2018 as part of a strategic review to ensure a fairer and more consistent approach across the county.

We generally consider requests for individual disabled parking bays as part of a wider town review, but every request will be considered on its own merits and in exceptional circumstances an advisory disabled parking bay could be provided.

Advisory disabled parking bays have no legal standing and anyone, with or without a blue badge can park in them. The belief that the installation of a bay will solve any parking issues being experienced is not true.

If a medical professional considers your particular circumstances as justified and all other options have been considered, you should contact our Traffic Management team at trafficmanagement@somerset.gov.uk setting out your case. We would be happy to consider the request.
