Somerset Council’s highways teams are resurfacing sections of both the A378 North Street in Langport and the A372 Somerton road in Huish Episcopi, starting in July.
North Street preparatory work is due to start on Monday 17 July and will last for five days; two-way signals will be in use for that week. The road will then be closed between 6.30pm and 11.30pm from Monday 24 July for six evenings so the resurfacing can be completed.
The preparatory work for Somerton Road will run from Monday 24 July for six days; again, these will be under two-way traffic signals. The resurfacing will then commence under the same closure hours (6:30pm to 11:30pm) starting on Tuesday 1 August, with completion due on Friday 11 August. While the roundabout at the north of the A372 is being resurfaced, signals will be in place.
Wales and West Utilities are conducting repair work on the A372 alongside these works, and they will control traffic using three-way signals. Their work is planned to run from Monday 10 July to Friday 25 August; they are planned to run during the school holidays to prevent more work being carried out after the resurfacing is complete.
Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s Executive Lead Member for Transport and Digital said: “Resurfacing roads that need it is a critical part of our summer programme; residents will be aware both roads are in need of urgent repair.
“While there is some short-term disruption, these works in both Langport and Huish Episcopi will make journeys in the area safer for years to come. The team will do everything they can to carry out the work safely and successfully during the evenings to minimise disruption.
“We are working in partnership with Wales and West Utilities to ensure that all key works are carried out at the same time.”
Every effort will be made to maintain access for residents and businesses in the immediate area, and we thank you for your patience while the work is in progress. A diversion will be in place, with full details available nearer the time on www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-travel-and-parking/roadworks-and-travel/.
