This prestigious award showcases community involvement as well as considering the standard of the park itself and recognises the park’s team of rangers and dedicated volunteers.
The team is committed to maintaining a thriving and welcoming environment for wildlife and visitors and works tirelessly to make sure visitors experience the best of nature while enjoying recreational activities.
The Friends of Yeovil Country Park, which represents the volunteers, applied for the award on behalf of the volunteers and rangers that manage this Green Flag award-winning site.
The RHS assessment took place last September and the results were announced recently at the Royal Horticultural Society Southwest in Bloom.
Countryside Ranger, Agi Szego, said: “We are delighted to receive this prestigious award from Southwest in Bloom. It demonstrates how valuable the country park is for wildlife and provides such a valuable asset to the community and visitors from afar. We have a dedicated team of rangers, but more importantly, an enthusiastic volunteer team, without whom, we could not have achieved this award. Well done everyone.”
The Friends of Yeovil Country Park Chairman, Gary Cashmore, commented: “Getting Five stars means a lot and demonstrates the high standards of park maintenance and community involvement which are some of the key judging criteria. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team of rangers, volunteers, cafe staff, and not forgetting the public for playing their part in supporting the country park. It’s a unique asset for all to enjoy. We also thank Yeovil Town Council for their continued support.”
Executive Member for Environment an Climate Change, Councillor Dixie Darch, said: “This award is justly deserved, and I have high praise for everyone involved. Yeovil Country park is a fantastic community asset with great environmental credentials and an inspiring place to visit. Congratulations to everyone involved.”
