On Monday, 30 September at 9:30 am, Wellington Library will reopen its doors, to welcome the community back to its historic Fore Street location after being refurbished. An official opening will take place later next week.

The library, which has been a cornerstone of the community since 1969, underwent significant upgrades while temporarily housed on North Street.

What’s new?

  • Enhanced accessibility: improved access for both staff and visitors across all floors.
  • Community connection: new spaces designed to foster community engagement, partnerships, and provide comprehensive advice and guidance.
  • The children’s library has a great new space, and the team is excited to offer more flexible events and activities for the whole community
  • Eco-friendly upgrades: increased thermal efficiency in line with Somerset Council’s Climate Emergency Strategy

Everyone is welcome to join the official opening by Mayor of Wellington Cllr Janet Lloyd at 11am on Wednesday 2 October, or people can drop in during opening hours to check out the new facilities.

Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, Executive Lead Member for Communities, Housing, and Culture, said:

“We’re thrilled to have Wellington Library back in Fore Street. The upgraded premises will serve as a vibrant hub for both the local community and visitors.”

Wellington and all Somerset Libraries offer so much more than just an extensive collection of books. They provide a wide range of services, including digital resources, community events, health and wellbeing support, and even business and employment advice.
