Our July meeting was spent at the SPCF/CIAT joint hosted family fun day, which was held at Brookside Academy.
Members of Unstoppables wanted to base this around our ‘School Avoidance’ priority. They then planned our engagement session and decided that we should do mocktails and ask the question ‘How does school make you feel?’
There were 5 mocktails to represent the 5 feelings we had for the answers.
Once young people had answered our question at our ‘engagement’ section, they went to the ‘mocktail bar’ to receive the drink to match their answer! Our members researched mocktails, named them and matched them to the feelings – they all did a fantastic job and were great mixologists!
- ‘On the beach’ – happy
- ‘Cherry bomb’ – angry/frustrated
- ‘Blue lagoon’ – sad
- ‘Appletini’ – meh
- ‘Purple rain’ – scared/anxious
We were able to engage with 84 young people during the day about how school makes them feel these were the results:
- ‘Happy’ – 43
- ‘Meh’ – 15
- ‘Sad’ – 8
- ‘Angry/frustrated’ – 7
- ‘Scared/anxious’ – 3
- ‘Mixture of all’ – 4
- ‘Excited’ – 2 (these were two younger children who were excited to start school).
We really enjoyed meeting all the families who attended and other providers who were there. Members had the opportunity to meet Olaf (picture below) and were able to explore around the venue to see what other activities were there.
We’re looking forward to our August meeting which will be joint with the other youth groups in the engagement and participation team, and look forward to updating you after that!
