As part of the international 16 Days of Action Campaign, Somerset Council is continuing its commitment to working with people who use harmful and/or abusive behaviours in their relationships by promoting its specialist Engage Programme.
The initiative works with individuals to recognise and transform behaviours that may impact their relationships with their partner, ex-partner or family member.
The Engage Programme, funded by Somerset Council in collaboration with, and facilitated by The YOU Trust, offers personalised supports. Participants have tailored interventions designed to address their behaviours, such as emotional dysregulation, communication challenges, conflict resolution, and respectful relationship dynamics.
The Engage Programme collaborates closely with local agencies and community stakeholders to provide comprehensive support, enhancing participant well-being and relationship skills.
The programme offers flexible support options, including group sessions and one-on-one interventions, to accommodate diverse needs and preferences. The programme also extends its support to partners or relatives who have been affected by the behaviour.
By promoting positive behaviours and supporting behaviour change, the Engage Programme contributes to developing resilience to and healthier relationship dynamics. In turn this can improve individuals’ overall health and wellbeing.
A Somerset Council spokesperson said: “The Engage Programme underscores our commitment to promoting healthy relationship behaviours and fostering supportive communities. Through compassionate support and tailored interventions, we empower individuals to build stronger, respectful relationships.
“Our ongoing efforts with the programme aim to enhance relationship skills and promote positive interactions. By collaborating with local partners, we ensure that participants receive the support they need to achieve meaningful behaviour change.”

Somerset Council is dedicated to enhancing community well-being through innovative programs and partnerships. The Engage Programme exemplifies this commitment by providing accessible, effective support to promote positive relationship behaviours and strengthen community ties.
