We have two exciting updates regarding School Accessibility in Somerset. The first in Evercreech, and the second in Curry Rivel.

Evercreech – washroom accessibility pod

The aim of the project was to create a fully adapted wash facility where the pupil and helper could have an accessible space to allow for the needs of the child to be met. The original scheme was to reconfigure the existing toilet and current accessible area.

After discussion, the option of a purpose-built washroom accessibility pod was decided as the best solution. This could follow the child through their educational journey if required or be utilised at another location when needed.

Working with local contractor Harris Brothers and Collard, washpod supplier Dignity Access, and building control and consultant Currie and Brown, the project has been successfully completed before the start of the 23/24 academic year. Everyone involved has found it a privilege to be involved in the project and deliver such a positive outcome.

Curry Rivel – Hygiene room and WC project

The project saw the adaption of current accessibility area into a fully facilitated area with split level bed and hoist. Due to the structural work involved, the existing toilet block had to be remodelled to accommodate the space required. The new facilities will provide a space for students to have all their day-to-day needs met.

With local contractor Qube Construction and the support of building control and consultant Currie and Brown, the project has been successfully completed before the start of the 23/24 academic year. Thank you for all the support received from personnel at the school to everyone involved in the delivery of project!
