We are really pleased to launch the updated guidance and information for families and educational setting focusing on how to support children and young people with sensory processing differences.
The updated materials have been produced in partnership between education settings, Somerset Parent Carer Forum, Somerset Council, and health services.
There is a strong local area recognition of the impact that sensory processing differences can have on children and families and a commitment to providing support so that these needs are identified and met. We know that for some young people, school environments can feel overwhelming at times, and we already have some fantastic examples of schools using the sensory audit to review their physical environment and make changes to ensure school environments are as accessible and inclusive as possible.
We have updated the sensory processing handbook which provides a range of guidance for educational settings, both around whole-school considerations as well as about how to identify and support individual children who might be presenting with sensory processing differences. You find out more and download the handbook at: Sensory Processing Handbook.
There is also a new sensory processing pathway guidance for parent carers that provides advice, training and how/when to seek more specialist support if that is required: Sensory Processing Pathway for Parent Carers.
