The Somerset Centre for Integrated Learning offers the Education and Development Foundation Degree with Specialist Pathways programme. This new, flexible degree is perfect for people interested in or currently working with children as a teaching assistant, special needs assistant, cover supervisor, Higher Level Teaching Assistant or outdoor learning practitioner.
This course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and values needed to work effectively with children and young people with a range of different needs to develop their learning and help them achieve their full potential.
Based in Taunton, applicants can combine their studies and learning on the job, without the need to relocate. The degree takes place outside of working hours, with sessions held one night per week and one Saturday per month during term time only.
You will learn from experienced practitioners and academics and benefit from visits to a range of education settings within Somerset, where you will gain hands-on experience and insight into the different aspects of working with children and young people.
You will also have the opportunity to continue your studies and achieve a full honours degree, which will open up the possibility of a route in teaching, social work or applying for a full master’s degree.
