Following requests, Alice, the Local Offer Young Persons Champion, developed an online learning module on Somerset’s SEND Local Offer. It is for people who work or volunteer within services that support parent carers who may have children and young people (aged 0-25 years) with special educational needs and/or disabilities. It is designed to help you understand where you can go to find information and support and how you can share this with the people you are working with.
Parent carers and young people need to know what is available to support them. We are often told the Local Offer is really helpful, but they wish they knew about it earlier. They wish the people working with them had signposted sooner. This training module helps to raise awareness and build confidence in using the resource.
On successful completion of the course, you will be able to;
- Understand the legal requirements on all of us,
- Describe what is meant by the term ‘Local Offer’,
- Establish who may benefit from accessing the Local Offer, and when,
- Use the Local Offer to identify services and pathways,
- Promote Somerset’s SEND Local Offer in your workplace and with your service users, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practice.
Somerset Council employees will be able to access by using Single Sign On and search in ‘Find learning’ within The Learning Centre. Please use the link: https://somerset.learningpool.com/course/view.php?id=2458
