It’s one of the largest volunteer forces in the country – and now you could be a part of it by giving time to become a school governor.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It gives volunteers the chance to make a real difference to young people, to give something back to their local community and use and develop skills. Becoming a school governor or trustee is a great way to gain experience that might not be available in your working role.

Governors play a crucial part of how the school is run, offering critical advice and scrutiny of the decisions and policies of the school.

Anyone can be a governor, as long as they are over 18 years of age and, although all experience is welcome, schools will particularly benefit from volunteers with experience in education, human resources, legal services, health & safety and finance, helping to ensure that the school has a board with a balance of expertise.

If you feel you have the experience or skills, or would like further information about our current vacancies, please visit https://supportservicesforeducation.co.uk/governancerecruitment, email SGS@somerset.gov.uk, or phone 0300 790 6855.
