The much talked about Hill View Academy, a specialist free school for children with Social and Emotional Mental Health Needs or Speech, Language and communication needs in South Somerset, is continuing to take shape.

Somerset Council Members and Officers recently visited the Hill view site to be taken on a tour by the Department of Education appointed Project Manager, and the Project Manager from ISG Contractors. The tour shed insightful into why the building is designed the way that is, how it will allow for the school to be run, and the environmental considerations of the build.

Members were pleased to hear that 99% of waste accumulated during the building process is being recycled. This includes working with a local art school who have been able to upcycle some of the waste into sculptures. In addition, Hill View has 262 roof mounted PV panels which should yield over 100,000kWh per year, the equivalent to boiling 34,000 kettles!

The school building is on course to be completed by March 2024 and open to students in of September 2024.
