Ham Hill Country Park is excited to be hosting its ever-popular dog show on Sunday 13 August 2023.

Set amidst the stunning backdrop of Ham Hill Country Park, popular with dog walkers from all over the local area and often much further afield, this event will be a celebration of the wonderful bond between a dog and its family.

Dogs from around Somerset and beyond are invited to put their best paw forward. Whether your dog is full of wagginess, cuteness, energy, or even sometimes a little grumpiness, there will be something for them and you to enjoy.

This year’s event comes after two cancellations in 2022, first due to exceptionally hot weather and then the death of The Queen.

The show will raise funds for two deserving local charities – the Friends of Ham Hill, who are a team of dedicated people who support education, conservation, improvement, and community activities at Ham Hill; and Ferne Animal Sanctuary based in Chard, who help animals in need through rescue and re-homing.

Gates open at 10am and the show starts at 10.30 am. One site parking is free and entry is £1.50 per dog per class payable on entry to the ring.

Please do not forget your poo bags and be aware that there are no litter bins at Ham Hill, so please come prepared to take your litter home with you and recycle what you can.

Please note this event is in a field and the terrain may be uneven. A wheelchair-accessible toilet is available.

Event organizer Donna McNeill said:

“We are so pleased to be holding the Ham Hill Dog Show again this year – it is a fantastic opportunity to participate in various activities with your dog that will make them, and you, smile.

“Whether you regularly walk your dog at Ham Hill or you’re discovering it for the first time, you and your dog can enjoy the delights of this historic site, participate in some of the twelve fun classes, or attempt the ‘Ham Hill Challenge’ (a series of three events designed to be fun for you and your dog).

“You can also watch Yeovil Agility Club in action, browse the attending stalls and enjoy al-fresco refreshments.”

Rachael Whaites, Countryside Manager at Ham Hill Country Park said:

“We are thrilled to be hosting the dog show at Ham Hill again this year. It is a great opportunity for families to celebrate their dogs and have fun together. It is also a great opportunity for dogs to socialise, and for Somerset Council to pass on the message of responsible dog walking at this incredibly important Iron Age hill fort site.”
