Somerset Council is pleased to announce the start of the next phases of North Taunton’s Woolaway Regeneration project.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place at the Phase B site at Oxford Place on 10 December when representatives from Somerset Council, Homes England and Classic Builders met to officially kickstart phases B and Ci. The scheme has the benefit of regeneration funding from Homes England.
Phase A of the North Taunton Woolaway project was completed earlier this year and delivered 47 new energy efficient homes.
This next stage of the development will deliver 53 homes composed of 13 flats, 4 bungalows, and 36 houses spread across 2 parcels of land.
Each home has been designed to Lifetime Home Standards, ensuring tenants can comfortably remain in their homes as their needs evolve.
Ecology friendly measures such as bat boxes, bird boxes, bee bricks and hedgehog highways are also incorporated into the plans.
Classic Builders (SW) Ltd is the appointed Principal Contractor for the design and construction of Phases B and Ci. The Plymouth-based contractor was selected based on their experience in delivering sustainable housing projects in the region including, the Council’s Minehead Project at Rainbow Way.
Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Communities, Housing Revenue Account, Culture and Equalities and Diversity, Councillor Federica Smith Roberts, said:
We are thrilled to be starting the next phase of this important regeneration scheme in North Taunton.
This high-priority project is replacing previous defective housing with new sustainable homes that will provide comfortable, healthy living and promote well-being and a strong sense of community.
Adam Brimacombe, Managing Director of Classic Builders (SW) Ltd, added:
We are thrilled to be partnering with Somerset Council on this important project. At Classic Builders, we believe sustainable housing is not just a trend, but a necessity for the future.
Our commitment to sustainable construction practices ensures that these new homes will be energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and built to the highest standards.
