Somerset Libraries will soon be launching some free guided one-hour fun activity and movement sessions in Chard and Bridgwater Libraries. The sessions are particularly aimed at anyone with a health condition, but anyone is welcome to book a place. The sessions are funded via the Together Fund provided by Sport England and the Somerset Activity Sports Partnership,

A Nova Sports activity coach will give some top tips on stretching and low-impact activities and people can even try out some fun games using virtual reality, an interactive projector, video gaming and an activity tracker watch.

All sessions will be tailor-made for the participant and they will run every two weeks for four months, starting on the 18th May in Chard library and the 22nd May in Bridgwater library. Places are limited, but people can book for as many or as few sessions as they like – email Chard library (chalib@somerset.gov.uk) or Bridgwater library (brwlib@somerset.gov.uk) to find out more or visit www.somerset.gov.uk/libraries/free-low-impact-activity-and-movement-sessions/

Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, Lead Member for Communities, Housing and Culture mentioned:-

“Somerset libraries are keen to help support people regarding their health and wellbeing and this latest initiative is a great example of the innovative ways that libraries can provide a safe, welcoming space for a wide range of activities. One of the best ways to get active is to have some fun, and by using new technology together with a professional activity coach, we believe that we can help inspire and inform anyone who might need some help with getting moving to improve their health”
