Ellise, a young lady from Somerset, has emerged as an inspiring figure. She has physical impairment and augmentative and alternative communication needs and has gone on to being a motivational speaker!

Her journey began with the use of an augmentative and alternative communication system—an eye gaze communication aid. Remarkably, her unique voice uses that of our late Queen Elizabeth II, adding a regal touch to her speeches.

Ellise actively engages with educational institutions, sharing her experiences and insights. She regularly speaks at schools, colleges, and universities, speaking with trainee medical staff and speech and language therapy students. Recently, she had the honour of delivering a speech in the House of Commons.

Below, Ellise shares her reflections on this incredible journey, accompanied by captivating photos from the event:

“This was one of the best days in my career as a motivational and public speaker. A once in a lifetime experience!

I first discovered The Jill Dando News Centre after my secondary school principal, Gregg Morrison, was appointed as a Director of Secondary Education at The Priory Learning Trust and asked me if I would like to be interviewed by a group of journalists at Priory Community School.

Not long after the interview I was asked if I would like to become a disabilities correspondent. The Jill Dando News Team recently had the opportunity to host the celebration of the life and legacy of Jill Dando at the Houses of Parliament. I had the real honour to deliver a presentation about the work I do as a disability’s correspondent and the power of positivity, optimism, and good news at the celebration of The Life & Legacy of Jill Dando at the Houses of Parliament.

It was the privilege to meet Mr Speaker, he was one of the loveliest people I have ever met, so much so that he wanted me to have his book of his life and the history of the Houses of Parliament! It was amazing to tell him about my voice on my eyegaze and why I chose Queen Elizabeth II’s voice.

I will be forever grateful for this opportunity to go with some amazing people from the Jill Dando News Centre. A massive thank you to Shane, Liz, and the rest of the team for making this happen! I feel very proud to be a part of the Jill Dando News and The Priory Learning Trust to carry on spreading good news like Jill Dando would have wanted!”

Ellise’s advocacy work continues to inspire others, proving that even in the face of challenges, one can find their voice and make a lasting impact. Well done, Ellise!
