The Young Carers in Schools (YCiS) award is an England-wide initiative that aims to provide schools with the tools and resources to help support their young carers have the same access to education and opportunities as their peers. The award is a celebration of a school’s commitment to our incredible young carers.

This academic year, a further 9 schools in Somerset have successfully obtained their Bronze Young Carers in Schools Award, well done all!

Schools participating in the award programme have reported;

73% said young carers classroom engagement had improved.
83% said young carers demonstrated increased happiness.
72% said that they felt young carers motivation to learn had improved.
94% said that they had a better understanding of the needs and support young carers require.
