With just a week to go before polls open in Castle Cary to elect a new Somerset Councillor, voters are being reminded to bring photo ID if voting in person.
The by election is being called to fill the vacant seat and will take place on Thursday 10 August. Polling stations will be open from 7am-10pm. The list of polling stations, and other useful information, can be found here: Castle Cary by-election (somerset.gov.uk)
Voters must show photo ID to receive their ballot paper in polling stations. Those without an accepted type of ID should bring their Voter Authority Certificate if applicable.
Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK or EEA drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.
Three candidates are standing for election for the vacancy in the two-seat division: David Hall (Conservative); Ewan Jones (Green Party); Kevin Messenger (Liberal Democrat).
