Connect Somerset is about all professionals and community groups working together to help families and residents to improve their lives. It is a partnership between Somerset Council, Somerset NHS, Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprises, and Schools, Colleges, and Early Years settings.
Our Connect Somerset Champions share how they were able to empower a school in West Mendip when supporting a young person with special educational needs.
“After meeting with local schools to discuss help available, a primary school reached out for guidance. A pupil enrolled in the school had complex educational needs and was receiving high-level support from statutory services. However, because the family lived in a different geographical area, the school was struggling to access the right support outside of school within the community. As Area Champions, we were able to connect the school with Champions and voluntary sector services in that area. This enabled the school to link the family with the correct support. The young person is now thriving in and out of school.”
