About the Taunton area
The Taunton LCN consists of 7 Somerset Council electoral divisions and covers the County Town of Somerset,Taunton, and the six neighbouring Parishes of Bishops Hull, Bishops Lydeard & Cothelstone, Cotford St. Luke, Norton Fitzwarren and Trull. It has a population of 74,000.
All are steeped in local history and are thriving localities offering their residents, visitors and tourists an abundance and variety of community hubs, events and social support often facilitated by volunteers. It is also home to the Somerset Heritage Centre which is open to the public and houses some amazing local and national artifacts, documents, and records.
The cultural and environmental diversity of the Taunton LCN is to be celebrated – from the County Town with its vibrant independent markets, festivals, theatre and Somerset County Cricket Ground, to the neighbouring Parishes with their picturesque villages , offering trips on the West Somerset Railway or a walk on the Quantocks where you can amble through ancient parklands and look out to the West Somerset coast.
