What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Scheduling transport in an efficient and cost effective way, using a bespoke transport scheduling system and allocating work to our inhouse drivers and passenger assistants.
  • Liaising with various members of the public, service users, and clients daily, and also includes contact with outside agencies such as, Social workers, group organizers and other Somerset Council departments.
  • Completing weekly rota’s and booking relief staff to cover routes, and short notice absences.
  • Various administration tasks including banking, data inputting, driver manifests, attendance sheets, care plans and invoicing.
  • Ability to cover routes as either a passenger assistant or driver if you have the specific driving licence.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • The ability to organise and continually priorities conflicting demands.
  • A friendly and caring nature when dealing with our service users, whether this be on the phone, through email or when you are covering routes.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to see tasks through to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Confidence in dealing with staff daily, advising them of their daily work and the ability to problem solve.

We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team. You can always contact the hiring manager for a chat if there’s anything you want to talk about before you apply.
