Some key information

Brand new post to engage new communities in their local green space.

Fixed term until 31st March 2025 with a possibility to extend (funding dependent).

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Develop work programmes to improve biodiversity or local distinctiveness, which help conserve or enhance the distinctive landscape qualities of Somerset Council’s green spaces.
  • Encourage appropriate access and develop site maintenance work programme to ensure the greenspace is managed for the needs of the community.
  • Supervise and guide volunteers to deliver tasks associated with access, rights of way, heritage, conservation, and visitor management.
  • Use and maintain a range of tools and equipment such as power tools, hand tools, plant, and vehicles.
  • Contributing to the improved management of open spaces for biodiversity so that more of Somerset’s habitats will be restored, contributing towards the 30 by 30 target.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training, and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a subject related to the conservation of the Natural Environment.
  • Knowledge of countryside management
  • Experience of leading volunteer groups
  • Experience of working on a busy countryside site
  • Experience of using a variety of hand and powered tools.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team. You can always contact the hiring manager for a chat if there’s anything you want to talk about before you apply.
