Want to have an impact on improving the lives and outcomes for the young people of Somerset? Enjoy working as part of a dynamic team, helping us to attract, engage with and retain the best staff in Somerset? Keen to be creative and overcome problems as well as work with and influence our senior leaders? We may have the role for you.

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.

This is a permanent post to shape the future of Recruitment and Engagement across Children and Families. This role is funded by Children and Families but sits in and is managed by the HR service as part of our Resourcing function. The role will work alongside an existing, similar, role that supports Adults Services.

The primary focus of the role is to look at two key areas:

  • Recruiting to vacancies within the service. All of the roles are identified as national skills shortages so you will need fresh ideas and a real passion to help us to support our teams.
  • Managing projects relating to recruitment, For example recruiting qualified staff from overseas and supporting their move to the UK and onboarding into the organisation and team.
  • Engaging with potential applicants to ensure we communicate and build relationships during the whole recruitment process and can convert their interest to an appointment.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be.

You do not need to be CIPD or Social Work qualified, however you will need the ability to work to deadlines and prioritise a variety of tasks as well as great communication and listening skills. The role will also require you to work across a number of teams within the Council as well as with external providers and organisations.

You will need a full driving license and access to a vehicle as the role requires travel around the county, sometimes at short notice, and driving to recruitment events with our recruitment stand and materials. There is also an occasional need for overnight stays when we attend national recruitment events.

Recruitment experience is essential.

We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team. You can always contact the hiring manager for a chat if there’s anything you want to talk about before you apply.

What's in it for me?

We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset.

We offer great training and development opportunities, with supportive management. As well as this, we have some fantastic employee benefits available:

  • We promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including working from home.
  • Generous annual leave allowance, with the opportunity to purchase additional leave
  • Staff discounts in gyms.
  • Employee Assistance for the times you may need some support and a variety of employee wellbeing services.
  • Auto enrolment onto our generous Pension Scheme and optional pension enhancement through our Additional Voluntary Contribution scheme.
  • A Flexible Benefits Scheme via salary sacrifice to obtain a cycle for work and health screenings.
  • My Staff Shop offering discounts in shops, online shopping, restaurants, cinema tickets, insurance benefits and more
