About Somerset Independence Plus

Who we are and how we can help you

Overview

We have been providing services that will support and improve the lives of the residents of Somerset since 2018.

We provide Disabled Facilities Grants and other discretionary forms of financial assistance products such as Safe, Warm and Secure grants and Retrofit Energy Advice and grants for homeowners. We also provide prevention services, such as our Hoarding Service and Home Safety Inspections, and property inspections on behalf of Public Health for Ukrainian Refugees.

We work with people of all ages and tenures to:

  • Provide home adaptations for families with disabled children, people of working age, and those in later life. These adaptations can include accessible bathrooms, stairlifts, ramps, rails, altering the layout, and adding extensions.
  • Help people make repairs and improvements to make their homes safe, secure, and easier to manage.
  • Improve home energy efficiency by providing advice and assistance to reduce fuel bills and ensure homes are better insulated – targeting fuel poor households.
  • Assist people with funding for works to their homes, guiding them through applying for grants and loans.
  • Help people move to more suitable accommodation if they are in homes that are in disrepair or not able to be easily adapted, where a tenancy is insecure, or a move would allow more independence or better care.
  • Help people declutter to make their homes safer and healthier.
  • Do home safety checks to make sure their homes are safe, secure, and free from hazards.
  • Provide people with independent advice and information, signposting them to other organisations to get support where necessary.
