Grass cutting on Somerset Council housing estates

Grass maintenance is a vital component of keeping our housing environment attractive and healthy.

Introduction

The Somerset Council Landlord Service is responsible for maintaining the green and open spaces on our housing estates. Most of the estates are in Wellington and Taunton and surrounding villages of the former Somerset West and Taunton Council district.

The grass cutting schedule on this page covers the service provided only in those areas.

Grass cutting is an important part of maintaining the appearance and health of our green spaces. Our team follows a schedule to ensure that grass is cut in a timely and efficient way.

information

The schedule is subject to weather conditions, especially wet weather and high groundwater levels. In the event of unfavourable weather conditions, grass cutting may be delayed or rescheduled.

Standards

We have two standards for grass cutting – cut and fly, and cut and collect.

  • General needs areas will be cut to a cut and fly standard, where grass clippings are left on the ground to decompose and provide nutrients to the soil.
  • Sheltered housing uses the cut and collect method, where grass clippings are collected and removed. This service is paid for from higher service charges.

Please refer to the schedule below for specific dates and locations for grass cutting. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain our green spaces.

Schedule

The regular grass cutting schedule has been suspended until Spring.

Our landlord service grounds maintenance team will now be focusing on:

  • Planting winter and spring beds
  • Carrying out hedge cutting
  • Housing estate ditch and stream maintenance
  • Leaf clearance and edging on sheltered housing sites
