The Old Courthouse
Description
A Grade 1 Listed building providing a versatile location with a variety of room sizes, character and original fabric. An abundance of spaces with unique historic character, flexibility, and ease of use.
The building encompasses several historical periods including Medieval, Tudor, Elizabethan, Jacobean, Georgian and Victorian, due to the phasing of the building covering 13th century 16th, 17th and 19th century.
Features decorative ceilings and a rich array of room sizes, fixtures, fittings and finishes of age and rarity. The Courtroom has an impressive, vaulted space and features a giant fireplace and decorative plasterwork. Historical evidence points to King Charles 1 and his entourage using it for residence on a visit to Chard. Plasterwork depictions of Proverbs the Scales of Justice are a clue to this function and lends a foreboding atmosphere to the space.
There is electric power, water supply and a single toilet on the Ground floor. No power or facilities upstairs nor in the Courtroom.
