Bridgwater Docks
Description
Historic Port of Bridgwater that was operational between 1845 and 1971 (although boats operated from 1348), now consisting of a Marina Basin feeding into the Taunton and Bridgwater Canal and a Tidal Basin that feeds into the River Parrett. The Dock area is currently out of use to all boating.
Between the two Basin’s the famous Bridgwater Bascule Bridge – one of a small number of examples left in the country, which includes Tower Bridge in London as an example, carries vehicles across the Northgate area of the Town.
Much of the docks now surrounded by apartments and the dock sides and bridges are pedestrian throughfares.
