Introduction

The Community Chest was a fund of £250,000 made available to help communities recover from the effects of COVID-19. The fund supported one-off initiatives run by the voluntary and community sector, and wider community groups who were unable to secure mainstream funding from Somerset Council or other sources.

Grants and funding

Grants of up to £7,500 were awarded to supplement activities and projects, covering up to 75% of the total cost of the project. The Community Chest Scheme provided funding to initiatives that:

• helped community groups secure long term sustainability
• helped the community to recover from the effects of COVID-19
• aligned to Somerset Council’s corporate priorities of housing and communities, the environment and the economy.
