Overview

Overview

Safe Places is a scheme which helps vulnerable people deal with difficult situations that make them feel scared or at risk while they are out and about in the community.  The Safe Places service is open to anyone in the force area with communication difficulties, such as a learning disability or dementia.

People who have joined the Safe Places Scheme carry an ‘I need help’ card with the contact details of someone they trust. They also have a unique reference number which gives them direct access to police support 24 hours a day. An individual can phone the Safe Places number if they find themselves in a crisis situation, such as if they are lost, feel scared or upset, and don’t know what to do, or if they have been a victim of crime.

They can also visit a Safe Places building for help. All police stations with enquiry offices are Safe Places and in the near future some council offices will also be included.

You can find more information on Safe Places in Somerset and see your nearest Safe Place location on the Avon and Somerset Police website.
