Access to Work

Access to Work is a government programme aimed at supporting disabled people to take up or remain in work

Overview

An Access to Work grant can pay for practical support to help you start or stay in work if you have a disability or health condition including mental health.

You can apply for this grant if you have started or are about to start the work experience part of a supported internship or traineeship. For more information about who can apply for this grant, visit the ‘Eligibility’ section on Access to Work: factsheet for customers.

The money from the grant can help pay for support you may need, for example:

  • specialist equipment for the days you are at the employer’s premises
  • making equipment easier for you to use
  • extra travel costs to and from work if you can’t use public transport
  • practical help such as a job coach or note taker

There is no set amount for an Access to Work grant, and how much you get depends on your circumstances.
