Universal Health Services

Support in health that is available to all

Introduction

Universal Health Services are health services that all children and young people can use. In some cases, similar services will be available, especially for people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities.  These services are provided by GP practices, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, Somerset Council and the wider NHS.  You will not need a referral, and they are often your first point of contact. These services are expected to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that children and young people with SEND have no barriers to accessing them.

Universal services include:

  • Health Visitors
  • School Nurses
  • GPs
  • Dentists
  • Opticians
  • Pharmacists
  • Hospitals
