Niches and vaults

Deciding what to do with your loved one’s ashes can be a very difficult decision, particularly if this has never been discussed before. You must make sure you are not rushing your decision, as often this is final and either cannot be undone, or can be difficult to undo. There is a range of choices within our grounds.

Columbarium niches

Available in Wellington Cemetery only, these columbarium niches are designed to securely hold up to four sets of cremated remains with a bespoke memorial plaque and posy holder. The Exclusive Right of Placement for 75 years must be bought in advance before ashes are placed as the owner is the only person who is able to authorise this and arrange for the memorial to be inscribed. After this, the rights return to the council.

Sanctum vault

The Sanctum 2000 is an above ground vault, large enough to accept two standard size caskets or polytainers. It is sited in our newly created Memorial Walkway in the Crematorium grounds.

The vault has a large granite plaque at the front, large enough for two inscriptions and a bespoke design tailored to your requirements. Please contact the Crematorium office to make an appointment to discuss the design options in more detail.

The Exclusive Right of Placement for 75 years will need to be bought before any placement of ashes as the owner is the only person who is able to authorise this and arrange for the memorial to be inscribed. After this time, the rights return to the council.

Leaf vaults

These above ground vaults are in the Crematorium’s woodland walkway. Available in Rainbow Sandstone or Juperana Granite, these vaults blend in with their surroundings maintaining our natural wooded theme. Vaults can hold either one or two sets of cremated remains, and an optional vase block is also available.
