Charges at recycling sites

Charges apply for disposing certain materials which are not classed as household waste

Introduction

Entry to all 16 recycling sites is free, and depositing household waste is free.

There is a charge for disposing some materials, which are not classified as household waste. Please pay a team member by credit or debit card when you arrive at the recycling site.

You will be charged for these materials:

  • Gas and oxygen bottles
  • Motor vehicle tyres
  • Vehicle parts
  • Soil

Up to eight bags of construction and demolition waste can be disposed of for free each month. Additional construction and demolition waste disposal can be paid for below.

Business waste is taken at ten of the sites. There is a vehicle permit scheme for businesses, and charges apply. For more information visit business waste and recycling sites.

Booking and payments

You must book your visit before you come to throw away DIY or construction waste. If you need to dispose of asbestos, plasterboard or hardcore or rubble in excess of your free allowance, there will be a charge.

This form has 4 and will take approximately 2 minutes to complete.

Before you start

You will need to let us know:

  • How much material you are disposing of. You can dispose up to eight 50 litre sacks per month.
  • How many visits you will make. You can visit up to 4 times per month.

Gas and oxygen bottle disposal

  • Less than 10kg: £8.90 per bottle
  • 10 to 20kg: £17.60 per bottle
  • Specialist cylinders: £51.80 per bottle

Empty gas cylinders or oxygen bottles can be returned to the original supplier or manufacturer. The manufacturer is usually identified on the side of the bottle. For advice on gas container return, visit Liquid Gas UK

Construction and demolition material disposal

Examples of construction and demolition materials that are included:

  • Asbestos – £17.10 per sheet
  • Bricks and concrete
  • Clay
  • Plasterboard – £5.80 per sheet
  • Rubble
  • Hardcore – £5 per bag
  • Sinks, tiles and toilets made from ceramics or porcelain
  • Stone

There is no charge for crockery or clay flowerpots, although we ask for these to be put in hardcore skips.

Each calendar month every household can bring up to eight, 50 litre sacks (or equivalent 2m sheets of asbestos or plasterboard) free of charge to a recycling site over a maximum of four visits in a month.

You need to pre-book your trip to dispose of this DIY waste, we need to know:

  • the amount of material you are disposing (up to eight 50 litre sacks per month)
  • the number of times you will need to visit (up to 4 visits per month)

If you wish to dispose of more than your monthly allowance, then a £5 per bag charge applies.

Motor vehicle tyre disposal

  • £5 per unrimmed tyre
  • £6.60 per rimmed tyre
  • £67.20 per large tyre (for example, lorry tyres)

No charges apply for bicycle tyres from households.

Vehicle part disposal

Vehicle parts are not classified as household waste. Special arrangements with charges have been introduced for vehicle parts, which are accepted at ten recycling sites.

  • Single carrier bag – no charge
