Rights of Way Improvement Plan
On 29th November 2006, Somerset County Council's Executive Board agreed to endorse the first Rights of Way Improvement Plan for Somerset. The Plan forms part of the 2nd Local Transport Plan and sets out how maintenance and legal event duties will be improved, as well as how the existing rights of way network will be improved to better suit the current and future needs of the public.

West Somerset Coast Path West Somerset Coast Path Now Open!
The West Somerset Coast Path runs from the hamlet of Steart to the coastal resort of Minehead and passes through the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The Coleridge Way Logo

The Coleridge Way
Walk 36 miles through the stunning Somerset countryside of the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor: a landscape that inspired Coleridge to produce some of his best known works.
The route takes you from Nether Stowey on the Quantock Hills, where Coleridge once lived, to the beautiful coastal village of Porlock and links up with the West Somerset Coast Path and the South West Coast Path. The walk can be completed over 3 or 4 consecutive days, making the Coleridge Way perfect for a short break.

The extensive path network is varied ranging from long distance routes such as the South West Coast Path and the Parrett Trail, to a number of promoted circular routes and local country paths.

The County Council is responsible for protecting and asserting your rights to use the network and for keeping the legal record of Public Rights of Way up-to-date. We have also published a Rights of Way Improvement Plan for the county and are responsible for the recruiting for, and servicing of, the Somerset Local Access Forum.

A specialist team deals exclusively with these Rights of Way issues, which are delivered in partnership with the District Councils, with whom we have agency agreements.

These pages contain information about the services provided by the Rights of Way Group.
