Road Closure

Please click on the link below to view the Road Closure table:

Temporary Road Closures: Roads can be closed on a temporary basis to host events, or to enable roadworks to be undertaken. An application form to obtain permission to carry out roadworks can be obtained from us.

Application form to host events can be obtained from your District Council.

Permanent Road Closures: In the majority of cases we do not own the highway, an exception being where we have bought the freehold of the land on which the highway is constructed. As the Highway Authority the County Council performs a custodial role.
This means we are the statutory authority designated to protect, uphold and enforce the public's rights in relation to the use and enjoyment of land designated as highway. In certain cases it may be possible for a member of public to apply to us to make an application for a Stopping Up Order to remove the highway rights and therefore close the road to the public. This is done through the Magistrates Court and there is a cost implication to the person applying.
