Somerset Strategic Housing Framework

The Somerset Housing Strategy 2019 - 2023 has a vision that seeks to achieve the following

  • Strong and effective strategic Leadership
  • A local Economy that provides opportunity for all
  • Homes in Somerset that are good for your Health
  • A Society that supports the vulnerable
  • The vision will be delivered by a range of supporting Priorities and Objectives.

There was a public consultation during the Spring of 2018. This sought comment on the draft Vision, Priority and Ambitions. Comments received, together with our response, can be viewed below.

During the spring and summer of 2018 we have been considering the public response to the draft Somerset Strategic Housing Framwork (SSHF). Most responses were supportive. However, a number of respondents raised questions and issues, together with making good suggestions as to how we may improve the content of the draft SSHF.

Our aim is to publish the final version of the SSHF by the end of the year, together with our reply to consultation responses. We are also planning a 'launch' event in the New Year. This is likely to be a half-day workshop.

11 July 2018

The draft of Somerset Strategic Housing Framework 2018 - 2022 was out for consultation until April 30 2018.

Working from consultation responses on the Housing Market Profiles and the Workshop Summary, we now have the Draft Somerset Strategic Housing Framework and Consultation Questionnaire.

The draft Framework has a vision that seeks to achieve the following:

  • Strong and effective strategic Leadership
  • A local Economy that provides opportunity for all
  • Homes in Somerset that are good for your Health
  • A Society that supports the vulnerable

There are several ways you can tell us your views or seek further information.

Please note that Mendip District Council are co-ordinating responses to this consultation on behalf of all Somerset district councils, the County Council and partner agencies. You can complete an online consultation at  www.mendip.gov.uk/somersethousingstrategy.

19 July 2017

We had 100 attendees at our stakeholder engagement event - the aim of the event was to inform housing priorities and actions across Somerset for the next five years. They came from a range of services, including planning, housing, health, social care and the voluntary sector. Presentations from all of the key speakers are available in the Information and Resources section of this page.

We have now started an initial consultation/engagement phase that will continue until 30 September 2017. For this phase we are asking just three high-level questions - see the final page of the housing profiles for details of the questions and how to submit them to us.

Somerset Strategic Housing Framework

The Somerset Strategic Housing Framework encompasses the housing strategies and the district action plans for Somerset. The current Framework was published in 2013 and is now being reviewed. To begin this process, housing market profiles have been produced for each of the districts together with a county-wide profile. These profiles highlight key facts and information - and you can links to our district colleagues' websites in the information and resources section of this page.
