Somerset County Council

Consultation on major planning applications

As a strategic planning authority we comment on major planning applications.  We may be asked to comment or we may volunteer comments to a district council

About this service

Major planning applications will normally be determined by district councils, after consultation with us and other statutory consultees. However, certain types of planning applications, for example major transport schemes (like the Taunton Third Way road scheme) and Minerals and Waste proposals, are decided by us.

Who can use it?

Organisations and individuals can comment on major planning applications.

How do I use it?

Applications will be advertised for consultation.

District councils are most likely to seek strategic comments from us when a proposal is not provided for in the Local Development Framework documents.

For further information concerning specific planning applications, please use the links to the district council websites in the Information and resources section of this page.
