Apply for a child work permit

Children often want to earn extra money, and many parents want their children to do this to help them become independent and self-disciplined. But, there are laws to protect children for their welfare.

In Somerset, Education Welfare Officers are responsible for issuing licences, or work permits, for children in employment.

You can send all your questions about work permits to ChildreninEntertainmentandEmployment@somerset.gov.uk

An employer is responsible for discussing the application with the child's parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must agree before you can complete the application process.

If you want to apply for a work permit for a child, we only accept online applications, please use the 'Apply now' button below.
